"Was I the same when I got up this morning? I
almost think I can remember feeling a little differ-
ent. But if I'm not the same, the next question is,
'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great
puzzle!"

Did you ever wonder what it means

to be a woman?

Is it something that grows inside,
an ancient knowing, that directs the
body and the mind and then,
one day, you look in the mirror and
perfectly formed! There's a woman?

What is this thing that we are?
Not just biology and conditioning.
Surely much more than that. We
know what we are, we are bound by
what we share and in spite of
what is different . . .

V v-

. . . Alone, we cannot find the meaning of "woman."
Together, we can try.

" 'Now that you have all told your plans for the future, why don't you ask us ours?'

'Because we know that there is only one thing for a pretty girl to do — break a dozen or so

hearts before she finds one to suit, and then marry and settle down,' answered Charlie as if no

other reply was possible.

That may be the case with many, but not with us, for Phebe and I believe that it is as much a

right and duty for women to do something with their lives as for men ... I mean what I say, and

you cannot laugh me down!'

'Heaven, preserve us! Here's women's rights with a vengeance!' "

10

11

12

13

. . . Stand still at your door,

sure ot yourself, a white stone, a good stone —

as exceptional as laughter

you will strike fire,

that new thing!

?>

/

15

. . . The world shall find this miracle in me,
That fire can burn when all the matter's spent.

THE MOM AND DAD PAD

When the folks come to visit, set
them up in style at the Boston
Marriott. They'll overlook the
Charles River . . . and we'll overlook
nothing to make them feel wanted.
The food's great . . . there's always
something doing . . . and Newton's
practically on campus.
